Who doesn’t like fruit? I love it! And even more when they are nice not only for the taste, but also for the eyes. Today there are ways to mechanically pollinate flowers, but it is just not the same. Bees do the job much better than anything we built ever will.
A while back, I bought a bee house and placed it in my backyard. I wasn’t hoping for much, to be honest, but was surprised today. Here is why:
This is the house.
While I went for a glass of water downstairs, something caught the periphery of my sight. When I looked, there it was! A bee going in to one of the little bamboo cells. This was the first
And this was the second.
I was so happy that they made their nests.. the summer will be bright! I have a pear and two plum trees, next summer, if the bees continue to nest, there will be even more fruit for my brews! Below is my pear cider tree…
And this is my plum wine and mead tree!
This just brightened my day, I must be honest! I love seeing nature doing its job, so at least for my own backyard, I will try and preserve it!
Congratulations! Your bee house looks really neat, too!
YEah, thanks! It costed me £10. Definitely worth the money. If you have a backyard, I’d recommend it
l would but I’m in an apartment. But its a great idea for when I get a house once more 🙂
Lovely post very interesting.Regards.
Thank you! I tried to keep it brief. I had a lot more to say, but I just wanted to show the bees to you all!
Thank you for reading!
Love the bee hive!!! What a fantastic idea!
Yeah, it’s pretty cool! But to be honest, all you need is a piece of wood and a drill to make something like that! I’d highly recommend it! Thanks for your comment!
Man after my own heart. Inviting pollinators to make a home among your fruit trees is just natural, Bees all over the world need to be protected from chemical harm. Your backyard looks very organic. Sweet.
It is! I have my own compost bin and my trees are fertilized with thing that I don’t throw out. Thank you for your comment!
I am glad to read to such post. Pollination by Bees help in high agricultural yield.
It kicks me to write post on this topic on my blog. If you don’t mind, can i copy pics from this post, will share this link to give respect for your work. regards
You can always reblog! Feel free to copy my photos, no problem! If you could just link my blog or something like that… I sat in from of that bee house for over two hours to get the photos.. hehehehe! It was painful!
I’ve never heard of a “bee house” before. I love it! I hope you get more neighbors 🙂
Hello! THank you for stopping by!
Yeah, since the post, a few more bees have nested in the little house! It’s pretty cool, I must say! Trying to do a little bit to protect them!
Neat! I love watching wildlife. It is so fascinating! beebeesworld
I’ve never seen a beehouse that looks like that ! – just the normal boxes, you know …? Is this a particularly Brazilian design ? Whatever it is, it’s WONDERFUL ! And to think that you just put it up and the bees find it …that’s totally ACE. http://wp.me/p3ZISx-1Pb I assume that your country is equally in danger, so I wish you the very best of luck with your beehouse ! 😀
Hi! Thank you very much for your comment!
I live in the UK and I bought that house from greenfingers. It’s a very common design all over the world, including brazil, where a bunch of bamboo with only one side opened in bundled together and placed about 1m high near a tree. Another design is just drilling holes about 1cm wide into a piece of wood, again not all the way through.
Thank you for your visit!
I am following you, now – you may learn to curse the day ! [grin]
I think I got Brazil from seeing something in your posts about Sao Paolo – sorry. Where in the UK she said inquisitively ?
I was born in Sao Paulo, yes! I know how that was misleading! hehehe
Curse you!!! Someone visiting and enjoying my blog! That’s not on! I think I will have to get used to it!
I live in Reading. I have a pear and plum tree in my backyard, so having bees work in my favour, plus that I love bees in general! Conservation is very important. There are solitary bees nest all over the cracks on the wall of my house! It’s great!
READING ??? – my second-oldest friend in the world lives in Reading ! 🙂
Wot a coincidence, eh ?
And what does N. stand for ? – may I ask ?
Nogueira! My surname. It means chestnut tree. It’s a portuguese surname.
So your first name is Netto ?
Nope… Wagner! N.Netto is just something for wordpress for some reason!
Do you have an email I can send you something?
It’s on my site, Wagner …
Are you planning on coming to Reading to visit your friend? I have many bottles of mead aging! Perhaps your next visit could be the one you try some homebrewed mead??? hehehee!
Nup. Too old now. Too broke. It isn’t that I wouldn’t love to see her again, nor that I wouldn’t like to travel again – just those two facts.
This is so interesting! I am so eager to start beekeeping and have looked into putting a hive in my backyard, but my family and neighbors are a little more reluctant. I’ve never heard of a bee house. Maybe that could be a baby step in the right direction??? I’ll have to look into this a little more.
Have always wondered if those little bee houses actually attract bees — will have to try one or two in my yard next spring!
They definitely work!!! There are 4 tubes with nests at the moment…. winter is coming, so next year there will be plenty more…. so I hope!
Thank you for stopping by!!
